Where Is It? is a shareware program written for 32-bit Windows operating systems, designed to aid PC users organize and maintain a catalog of PC media collection, including CD-ROMs, diskettes, digital sound CDs, DVDs, removable drives, hard drives, network drives or any other media that Windows can access as a drive.

The most basic target for Where Is It? is to provide access to the contents of any media you have from a cataloged database, even if the media itself is not accessible on the system - you can browse lists of files and directories, search by any criteria, use descriptions, thumbnails, categories, flags, etc.

Where is it? is a successor of successful DOS program Floppy Master, extending its capabilities to new and larger media storage devices and providing even more comprehensive access to stored info.

WhereIsIt can be used to handle any kind of info, including downloaded programs, magazine CD-ROMs, music collections like MP3s or digital sound CDs, graphics collections, document backups, etc.

Where Is It? can handle lots of them, too, a couple hundreds or thousands disks in a catalog is nothing unusual, yet catalogs remain reasonably little, single-filed and simple to transfer or send to other PC users.

You can also generate more than one catalog, and at any time open and work with as a lot of catalogs at once as needed.

Information about graphics files not alone include their size and color depth, a little thumbnail can be imported in catalog as well, possibly together with digital camera data and other comments embedded inside.
• Built-in media recognition system
• WhereIsIt does not use drive letters to reference cataloged disks, it is capable to recognize them by their key properties, like type, serial number, formatted ability, and similar. This path, it doesn’t matter which drive your media is in, WhereIsIt will detect it, even on some other PC over the network. In the unlikely occurrence that media modifications that much that it can no longer be recognized (for example, by reformatting it), you can still manually update its existing disk pic in catalog.
• Every item in catalog includes detailed basic details about files and directories you would come to expect, like name, size, date, file attributes and similar, but WhereIsIt adds to that its own details it provides as a catalog program. For example, every item can include up to 32 KB textual description, a little thumbnail pic, you can assign items custom-defined, multi-level categories or flags, you can even assign them so-called alias names, under which are they famous in catalog for example, if the real file name is to cryptic. When displayed in WhereIsIt, items can be colored according their type, assigned categories or flags… All of those can be used to detect items you are looking for, or just produce browsing your disk pics a lot simpler and more fun.
• WhereIsIt supports any media type Windows can access as drive, including diskettes, CD-ROMs, DVDs, removable disks like iomega Zip, hard disks, network drives etc. It will recognize by name and gather beneficial info for most of them, too. WhereIsIt is compatible with all Windows-supported file systems, including FAT, FAT32, and NTFS.
• Not just that, WhereIsIt’s PC user interface can be used in any of the supported languages, dialogs will adjust to translated content. Maintenance for new languages can be downloaded in a form of little language files, or even generated by PC users themselves by translating the program to a new language.
• Searching for duplicate items is in there, too, as well as comparing cataloged disk pic to actual files on the media, and comparing cataloged disk pics allows for tasks such as version tracking, if comparing disk pics of the same media taken at different points in time.
